Advertisements from Time Magazine (December 1981)

My folks saved lots of magazines corresponding to important events -- as I suspect many people did regarding the recent election -- and the birth of my sister in 1981 was one such event. These wonderful advertisements come from the TIME magazine from December 27, 1981 -- The Year in Pictures issue. Not much creativity in the company that created these two ads, was there?

Lots of cigarette and booze ads here, but also some wonderful ones from Hilton, Bell Systems, Chrysler (with Ricardo Montalban), Azar Nuts and Snap-E-Tom. Enjoy the slideshow below, or click through for the Flickr set.

Schwinn Bicycle and Accessories Catalog (1980)

Sometimes you come across things that you can't exactly figure out who in the world would buy them, and then you realize that the person to buy them is you! This Schwinn Bicycle and Accessories Catalog from 1980 was one such item I picked up a few weeks ago for less than five bucks. Expo 86 Passport Book (1986)

When I was twelve, my whole family -- plus my uncle's family -- drove up to Vancouver, B.C. for a few days to attend Expo 86, the World Exposition on Transportation and Communication. It is the only World's Fair I have attended in my life, but I have such fond memories, mostly thanks to this wonderful passport book. I remember my brother and I hitting the stamp spots at every pavilion we could find. Many thanks for Draplin Design for sending some traffic our way on this. Activision Catalog - Winter Spring (1984)

Like most kids growing up in the early 1980s, I was addicted to my Atari 2600 -- although we just called it "The Atari", as there wasn't much else out there. Activision was -- and arguably still is -- one of the premier game makers out there, and there classics for the Atari like "Kaboom" and "Pitfall" hold fond memories for me. G.I. Joe Members Only Pamphlet (1984)

This entry is right on the cusp of being vintage, but considering that "G.I. Joe" is being made into a summer blockbuster at present, and it's been almost 25 years since this pamphlet came out, I'm gonna go with it. I didn't own very many G.I. Joe figures and accessories, but this must have come with one of them. As usual, why I saved this, I may never know, but nonetheless, here it is for your viewing and using pleasure.
